It's my number 150 post .
Blog about the chapter I have learnt so far in Biology .
Chapter 2 - Cells .
1) Root Hair Cell
-The root har cell is elongated [ extended ] to increase surface area to volume ratio to increase
efficiency [ very high , fast rate ] for absorption of minerals and water .
2) Xylem Vessel
-It is hollow ,without crossed wall ,without cellular parts for efficient conduction of water and
minerals salt .It has thick lignified cellular cell wall to support the plant and keep it upright .
3) Red Blood Cell
-The red blood cell is biconcave without neucleus to increase surface area to volume ratio of
maximum absorption of oxygen molecules to be transported through the organism .
-It contains Haemoglobin which allows it to bind with oxygen molecules to be transported .
--> Animal Cell VS. Plant Cell
1) Nucleus is
present in both cells .
- Nucleus control cell activities such as cell growth and the repair of worn-out parts .
2) Cytoplasm is
present in both cells .
- Cytoplasm contains enzymes and specialised structures contains enzymes .
3) Cell Surface membrane is
present in both cells .
- Cell Surface membrane
present to control substances entering or leaving the cell as it is partially permeable .
4) Vacuoles is
present in both cells .
- In an animal cell , Vacuoles are small and numerous to transport substance in and out pf the cell .
- In a plant cell , Vacuoles are usually one or two large central Vacuoles containing cell sap .
5) Cellulose Cell Wall is
absent in animal cell but it is
present in the plant cell .
- Cellulose Cell Wall present is to give the plant its shape .
6) Mitochondia is
present in both cells .
- Mitochondia release energy by oxidizing glucose molecule during aerobic respiration .
7) Chloroplast is
absent in animal cell but it is
present in the plant cell .
- Chloroplast present to contain chlorophyll which traps light energy for photosynthesis [ a process of making food for plant ] .
8) Centrioles is
present in animal cell but it is
absent in the plant cell .
- Centrioles in animal cell are involved in cell division .
